Micronauts #10

Michael Golden's cover for this 1979 Marvel series says it all in one arresting word — "Defeat!" — as a dark, screaming figure looms over a high-tech interior, arms raised amid a searing burst of energy, while two fallen heroes sprawl helplessly in the foreground. The Micronauts have faced plenty of cosmic odds in their journey from Inner Space, but this cover suggests things have taken a genuinely grim turn. Bill Mantlo and Golden, along with inker Al Milgrom, bring a raw urgency to issue #10 that makes it hard to set down.
