“Shadows Within”

In "Shadows Within," Phil, grappling with chemotherapy, dives into writing a sequel to *Marvels*, only to find the world’s heroes growing murkier in his lens. As he witnesses Spider-Man’s chilling choice on the Statue of Liberty, the line between justice and consequence blurs—leaving Phil overwhelmed and fainting. Written by Kurt Busiek and Roger Stern, with art by Jay Anacleto and colors by Brian Haberlin, this issue captures a quiet, haunting shift in perspective, all rendered with care on a cover by Jay Anacleto.

Phil begins his chemotherapy and starts to work on his sequel to Marvels. He tries to stay positive about his super heroic subjects but finds the tone of the world growing darker as the good guys seem to be a little morally ambiguous. After watching Spider-Man allow the Hitman to fall from the Statue of Liberty to his death, Phil is overcome and passes out.
