Marvel Zombies 5 #2

Issue two of this five-part 2010 limited series drops readers into a world of tripod war machines and blazing skies, with M. W. Kaluta's cover depicting two figures — one fiery-haired and sword-wielding — locked in fierce combat atop the massive mechanical leg of what appears to be a Martian war machine straight out of H. G. Wells' nightmare. The inferno below and the looming mechanical silhouettes overhead give the whole scene a pulpy, otherworldly weight that feels perfectly suited to a story called "The Humblest Things." Fred Van Lente writes and Kano pencils the interior, promising the same blend of dark invention that makes this series such a gleefully genre-hopping ride.
