The dripping, blood-red logo sets the tone perfectly for this 2008 limited series opener, as Greg Land's cover presents two determined figures — a broad-shouldered, red-eyed android in a long coat wielding a massive mechanical weapon, and a silver-skinned female companion in red — standing resolute over a mass of decaying, grasping zombie bodies. Fred Van Lente and Kev Walker take the reins of this four-part Marvel series, with Jean-François Beaulieu's colors lending the whole image a moody, storm-lit atmosphere that makes the undead threat feel genuinely unsettling. If you like your Marvel Universe a little darker and a lot more dangerous, this first issue promises a grim and gripping ride.
