Marvel Tales #289 brings together one of comics' most unlikely trios — Spider-Man, Silver Sable, and Sandman — to face the Sinister Syndicate, and the cover by Scott Kolins and Jon Holdredge makes the team-up feel genuinely electric. Sandman dominates the foreground, his massive sandy fist thrusting toward the reader with barely contained fury, while Spider-Man leaps dynamically above and Silver Sable stands ready with her weapon against a gritty brick-wall backdrop. It's a sharp, energetic package that reprints Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz's "When Warriors Clash --!" for a very reasonable 1994 cover price.
