“The Measure of a Man!”

In "The Measure of a Man!", Peter and Mary Jane stumble upon Man-Thing displayed as a sideshow attraction in a circus, sparking a mission that takes them deep into the Florida swamp. Written by Chris Claremont and illustrated by John Byrne, this 1987 tale sees Spider-Man return the creature to its natural home, where it soon moves with quiet resolve toward a house where d'Spayre holds an ancient sorcerer and his young apprentice. The cover by John Byrne and Joe Rubinstein captures the eerie, swamp-bound tension of the story, while the dynamic art and grounded narrative deliver a standout moment in the Spider-Man mythos.
