“Just a Guy Named Joe”

In "Just a Guy Named Joe," Steve Ditko (writing with Stan Lee) crafts a strikingly original tale of an ordinary man pushed to extremes. Joe Smith, a failed fighter turned reluctant actor in a robotic costume, is transformed by a freak accident into something far more dangerous—while Spider-Man faces a deadly bounty and a near-miss with Mary Jane. The story’s eerie tone and bold visuals are brought to life by Ditko’s distinctive art and inks, with Andy Yanchus handling colors and Artie Simek’s lettering adding sharp precision. The cover, also by Ditko, captures the unsettling intensity of the moment just before everything changes.
