In "Der Tod von Tony Stark," Pepper and Happy, shaken by Tony Stark’s sudden disappearance, confront Iron Man and hand in their resignations. The next day, Happy breaks into Stark’s mansion, only to find Tony hiding in bed—his suit concealed, his fate uncertain—before the Mandarin unleashes a massive space laser, reducing much of the house to rubble. Disguised as a bearded man in a long coat, Stark flees to China, where he confronts Koto, the Mandarin’s robotic enforcer, and is overpowered. Written by Stan Lee and Alex Rösch, illustrated by Don Heck with inks by Dick Ayers, colors by Stan Goldberg, and letters by Francesca Salvatori, this emotionally charged issue features a cover by Jack Kirby and Chic Stone.

Pepper & Happy, die durch Tony Starks Verschwinden verunsichert sind, gehen zu Iron Man und reichen ihre Kündigung ein. Am nächsten Tag bricht Happy in Starks Haus ein. Tony versteckt sich im Bett um seine Rüstung zu verbergen, er versichert Happy, dass alles in Ordnung sei. Der Mandarin setzt seinen riesigen Weltraumlaser ein, um einen Großteil von Starks Haus zu zerstören. Er tötet scheinbar Stark. Stark als Iron Man verkleidet sich als bärtiger Mann in einem langen Mantel und besteigt ein Flugzeug nach China. Er konfrontiert Koto, den Roboter des Mandarins, und wird besiegt.
