“Chapter 5 - Werewolf!”
About this Issue

Mark Spears Monsters #5 represents a pivotal storytelling moment in this Keenspot indie horror series — it is the issue that delivers the Bride of Frankenstein's most consequential scene to date, as Igor reshapes her iconic look in a sequence that recontextualizes her as a bold, active presence rather than a passive creation. The issue also escalates the werewolf threat against the group of kids, tightening the multi-threaded 1980s-set narrative that has distinguished the series as a rare solo-creator achievement in modern horror comics. Coming directly on the heels of the series' Free Comic Book Day #0 issue, #5 marks the beginning of a new phase of audience expansion for the Mark Spears Monsters universe.

In "Chapter 5 - Werewolf!", Mark Spears delivers a pulse-pounding escalation in his ongoing horror saga, with Slayer tracking down Jekell—only to force the long-suppressed Hyde into the open. As the three boys flee through the night, they stumble upon a terrifying new threat: the Werewolf and its victim, leading to a desperate scramble for safety in a water tower. With Slayer closing in and the mansion’s dark secrets unfolding, the stakes rise in this standalone chapter of a larger, monstrous mystery. The story is written and illustrated by Mark Spears, with lettering by Micah Meyers and inks and colors by Spears as well, and the cover is also by Spears, capturing the chaos in bold, dynamic lines.

History

Mark Spears launched the Monsters comic series with Keenspot Entertainment in September 2024, adapting original monster characters he had previously developed across two trading card sets. The series is a solo enterprise — Spears writes, draws, and covers every issue — and grew out of his profile as a cover artist on mainstream titles including Spawn, Action Comics, and Power Rangers. Issue #5 shipped in May 2025 as part of the bimonthly ongoing, arriving immediately after the dedicated Free Comic Book Day #0 issue broadened the readership, and its Cover D variant was polybagged with an exclusive Monsters trading card, directly echoing the trading card origins of the property.
