Margo realizes she can never marry Greg so she decides to leave Black Crag. But as she is leaving, she hears someone moving in the cellar. Discovering that the door is unlocked, she enters to find Greg. He starts choking her, but Cavan rescues her. After discovering gelignite and some gold dust, they realize that he had been planning to fix up an explosion to get at a vein of gold after marrying her. When they see a fire has started from the candle Margo had dropped, Greg escapes and locks the door. Cavan knows that if the flames reach the explosives, the whole place will be blown sky high.
