“Half-Life”

Moon Knight fills the foreground of this striking 1991 cover, his white cowl looming large as he confronts a grotesque, tentacled creature with glowing red eyes — a genuinely unsettling face-off rendered with real intensity by penciler Ron Garney and inker Tom Palmer. In the background, a black-suited Spider-Man swings into the fray, just as the cover banner promises his guest appearance. "Half-Life" looks to be a moody, creature-feature chapter in J. M. DeMatteis's run on the series, and the close-quarters composition makes it hard to look away.
