Manhunter #9
The "Fear Itself" arc reaches its fourth chapter with a cover by Jesús Saiz that says everything without showing a thing — Manhunter crouches with her armored gauntlets pressed against her face, her red-and-blue suit vivid against the enormous, glowing yellow eyes of a green-skinned figure looming behind her. It's a striking image of psychological pressure rather than physical combat, perfectly suited to a series that Wizard was already calling a "top notch comic you should be buying" in 2005. With Marc Andreyko writing and Javier Pina and Jimmy Palmiotti handling the interior art, this remains one of DC's most compelling crime-tinged superhero books of the mid-2000s.
