About this Issue

Magik (Vol. 2) #10 is the concluding chapter of Illyana Rasputina's first-ever ongoing solo series — a milestone in a publishing history spanning decades in which the character had appeared only in team books and limited series. Writer Ashley Allen uses the finale to deliver meaningful closure on Illyana's long-running psychological struggle with her Darkchylde persona, framing the resolution not as a defeat of the dark side but as a step toward integration and self-acceptance — one of the more nuanced treatments the character has received in print. The issue also marked the end of a run that, per retailer sales tracking, ranked among the top 25 best-selling comics and the second-best-selling X-office title of the month in which its penultimate issue shipped, confirming genuine commercial traction for a character long considered a cult figure rather than a frontline seller. The letters column teased continued collaboration between Allen, Peralta, and colorist Arthur Hesli after the 'Age of Revelation' event, signaling editorial confidence in carrying this creative team — and this version of Illyana — forward.

History

The 2025 Magik series was announced in September 2024 as part of Marvel's 'From the Ashes' X-Men relaunch, with Ashley Allen — a graduate of the Milestone Initiative Program who had previously written only shorter-form Marvel work, including the one-shot X-Men: Blood Hunt – Magik — tapped to write Illyana's first ongoing solo title. Allen has said her pitch grew directly out of positive fan reception to that Blood Hunt story, and that she drew creative inspiration from manga and anime series like Soul Eater and Demon Slayer as well as years of tabletop roleplaying, shaping the series' structured approach to occult magic systems. Germán Peralta, whose recent credits included Black Panther and Loki, handled art for the majority of the run and designed a new visual language for Illyana's Darkchylde form, while cover duties across all ten issues went to Pablo Villalobos, with J. Scott Campbell providing the main covers for the opening arc. Editor Darren Shan shepherded the book to completion, with the series wrapping at issue #10 ahead of the 'Age of Revelation' crossover event.

Trivia · 8 facts

  • Magik (Vol. 2) #10 is the final issue of Illyana Rasputina's first-ever ongoing solo comic series, published by Marvel Comics on September 17, 2025, with a November 2025 cover date.
  • Written by Ashley Allen with interior art by Germán Peralta, colors by Arthur Hesli, letters by VC's Ariana Maher, and a cover by Pablo Villalobos; editor Darren Shan, editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski.
  • Three variant covers were produced for the issue: a Foreshadow Logo Variant, a Hicham Habchi Variant, and a Simone Di Meo Variant, in addition to the Pablo Villalobos main cover.
  • The story arc titled 'To the Bitter End' concludes here, resolving the ten-issue conflict between Illyana, her ally Dani Moonstar (Mirage), the possessing entity Liminal (inside Callen Isaacs), and the Society of the Eternal Dawn's leader the Embodiment — a mutant with near-precognitive abilities who first appeared earlier in the run.
  • The issue depicts Illyana gaining access to the Library of the Fates — a prophetic nexus that serves as the Embodiment's personal realm — and defeating her by exploiting the limitations of her precognitive power, bringing the arc to a close.
  • The letters column in this issue teased a continuation involving Allen, Peralta, and Hesli after the 'Age of Revelation' X-Men crossover event, with fan and critical speculation pointing toward a possible Sorcerer Supreme title or a Magik & Colossus series (announced at NYCC 2025 for a February 2026 launch).
  • The first trade paperback collection, Magik Vol. 1: Unleashed, collecting issues #1–5, was published by Marvel in 2025; no collected edition specifically covering issues #6–10 was confirmed in sources reviewed.
  • Ashley Allen's work on this series represented her debut as an ongoing-series writer; prior to Magik, her Marvel credits consisted of short stories in anthology books and the Blood Hunt one-shot, making the full 10-issue run a significant career milestone for an emerging talent.
