Written by Noelle Stevenson and illustrated by Brooke Allen, with colors by Maarta Laiho and letters by Aubrey Aiese, this first issue sets a playful yet suspenseful tone, all framed by a cover by Noelle Stevenson.

Jo, April, Mal, Molly, and Ripley -- the residents of Camp Lumberjane's of Roanoke cabin -- sneak out of their cabin at night to explore the woods. They are attacked by a pack of three-eyed foxes who disappear in puffs of smoke upon being defeated, but leave a message: Beware the Kittens Holy. They also encounter a mysterious Bear Woman. Returning to their cabin, they are discovered by their counselor, Jen, who takes them to Rosie, the headmaster. Rosie advises the girls to be cautious and observant, as they are likely to encounter more strange things over the summer.
