Lucifer #8
Part of DC's Sandman Universe line, Lucifer #8 brings Dan Watters's dark vision to life with a cover by Tiffany Turrill that immediately sets an unsettling tone — a glowing, spectral figure suspended in chains cradles a bloody heart on a scale, flanked by a plague-doctor-masked figure and the snapping jaws of some monstrous creature. The story arc's title, "A Fine Day for a Black Mass," promises exactly the kind of deeply atmospheric, morally charged storytelling this 2019 Vertigo series does so well. With art from Aaron Campbell and the Fiumara brothers colored by Dave McCaig, this issue delivers the brooding, mythologically rich atmosphere that makes Lucifer one of Vertigo's most compelling ongoing series.
