Lucifer #9

Part of DC's Sandman Universe line, Lucifer #9 (2019) presents one of the more unsettling dinner invitations you'll encounter on a comic rack. Tiffany Turrill's cover depicts a blue-skinned, robed figure coolly presenting a covered silver cloche, surrounded on all sides by the snarling, glowing-eyed heads of predatory beasts — lion, tiger, bear, boar, and more — mounted against a deep crimson backdrop. With Dan Watters writing, Kelley Jones on art, and Chris O'Halloran's moody colors inside, "The Gastronomy Lesson" promises the kind of darkly elegant menace this Vertigo title does so well.
