Jim and Pam had been childhood sweethearts. When Jim gets a scholarship to go to a prestigious prep school he doesn't want to leave his old friends, but Pam convinces him that he should go and says she will always be his girl. But over time they drift apart. Years later, after Pam has been working an assembly line job for three years, Jim returns. He is willing to give up a university scholarship to marry her. Although grateful, Pam lies and tells him he must go on to university and come back to marry her when he finishes, knowing he will not want to marry her when he returns.
