Lords of Mars #3
The painted cover by Alex Ross bathes the red Martian landscape in molten amber light, presenting a armored woman at the center — poised and defiant — while two enormous close-up faces loom from either side and a menacing creature looms in the golden background behind her. The tension between those towering presences and her composed stance says everything about the power dynamics hinted at by the story title "To Kill A God." Dynamite's 2013 Barsoom crossover continues to be a striking showcase for both Ross's painterly craftsmanship and the pulp-adventure spirit these characters embody.
