“4: The Village of Torture”

Dynamite's 2012 reimagining of Edgar Rice Burroughs' jungle hero reaches its fourth chapter, subtitled "The Village of Torture," promising exactly the kind of primal tension the title suggests. Lucio Parrillo's cover delivers a striking image of the wild-haired, knife-wielding Lord of the Jungle crouched atop a gnarled tree, muscles coiled and ready to strike against a smoldering purple-and-amber sky alive with swirling leaves. With Arvid Nelson scripting and Roberto Castro on interior art, this series continues to bring Burroughs' elemental world to vivid life.
