Local Man #5

The cover of Local Man #5 says it all — a costumed hero standing defiant in what looks like a small-town parking lot, dwarfed by a massive, glowing red hand reaching down from above while ordinary townsfolk look on from the edges. It's an arresting image by Tim Seeley, Tony Fleecs, and Joe Benitez that captures the series' central tension perfectly: superhero-scale threats colliding with deliberately mundane surroundings, right down to the water tower in the background. With "Training Day" as the story title and the creative team of Seeley, Fleecs, Simpson, and Sobreiro firing on all cylinders, this June 2023 issue looks like a compelling chapter in one of Image's most grounded takes on superhero life.
