The 2010 revival of the Life with Archie title grew directly out of the 'Archie Marries Veronica / Archie Marries Betty' storyline that ran through Archie #600–606 in 2009, itself conceived by producer and comics writer Michael Uslan under the creative stewardship of incoming Archie Comics co-CEO Jon Goldwater, who took over the company in 2009 and immediately pushed for more contemporary storytelling. Uslan, who had written those original wedding issues, also scripted issue #1 of the revival, with Norm Breyfogle — then best known for his acclaimed Batman work at DC — providing pencils alongside inkers Andrew Pepoy and Joe Rubinstein; ongoing series writing duties were subsequently handled by Paul Kupperberg. The magazine-format presentation (larger pages, higher page count, combined with teen-magazine bonus features including fantasy casting sections) was a deliberate editorial choice to signal that this was not a standard Archie comic, and original plans had reportedly called for the two timelines to be published as separate series before being combined into one title.
