Li'l Genius features two stories. In the first, a young child discovers his parents at a bar and, after learning his father was angry at Mr. Peterson over the phone, mistakenly believes Mr. Peterson is responsible; the child throws a stone through Peterson's window, but the misunderstanding is resolved when the parents explain the true cause of the argument. In the second story, Li'l Genius plays soldier and imagines himself as a frontier scout defending a stockade against an Indian attack; during the battle, he catches a wretch at the gate, and his clever idea helps the soldiers achieve victory with no losses.
