Three Legionnaires scramble across a futuristic cityscape as a menacing armored figure unleashes a torrent of flame directly at them — the cover's diagonal energy blast gives the whole scene a real sense of momentum. Chris Sprouse and Al Gordon deliver a sharply designed threat in that green-eyed, dark-armored villain, while the blonde Legionnaire in pink and white, her Robin-costumed teammate, and the blue-skinned hero below all sell the urgency perfectly. With Roger Stern and Tom McCraw on scripting duties and Jeffrey Moy on interior art, Legionnaires #72 looks like a confident, action-packed entry in the team's 1999 run.
