L'Escadron des Etoiles #2
"Décembre noir" in L'Escadron des Etoiles #2 (1982) delivers a gripping wartime clash where heroes returning to Pearl Harbor confront the aftermath of battle, only to be drawn into a supernatural siege on a Pacific island. As the more powerful among them succumb to the combined magicks of the Holy Tablet and the Spear of Destiny—held by Tojo and Hitler—their allies must fight to reclaim them from Axis influence. Written by Roy Thomas and illustrated by Rich Buckler, with inks by Jerry Ordway and colors by Carl Gafford, the issue unfolds with urgent stakes, while Dick Giordano’s cover pencils and inks capture the tension of a world on the brink.

When both teams return to Pearl Harbor and see the damage, the more powerful of the heroes go to defend an island under siege by the Japanese in the Pacific. They arrive, with the others in tow, but slowly begin to fall under both the Holy Tablet (supposedly carved from part of the Holy Grail itself) and the Spear of Destiny's combined magicks (both held by Tojo and Hitler respectively). The others must then fight them and get them back to territory not under Axis control/influence. In Washington, D.C., FDR has declared all heroes as All-Star members now for World War II's duration.
