“Dinner at Eight”

In "Dinner at Eight," Kurt Busiek and Brent Anderson craft a quietly powerful moment as the legendary Samaritan and the enigmatic Winged Victory share a dinner that turns into a heartfelt conversation about identity, time, and connection. Set against the backdrop of a world shaped by impossible choices, the story explores how past decisions ripple into the present—and what it means to belong when your history no longer fits. Alex Ross’s striking cover captures the emotional weight of the moment, perfectly framing this intimate chapter in the Astro City saga.

Samaritan and Winged Victory go on a date, but end up discussing business. Samaritan tells how he came to the present from the future to prevent the space shuttle disaster in 1986, but when he returned to his time, it had changed and he no longer existed there. Winged Victory grows frustrated with the differences between her and Samaritan, but they come to an understanding and seal it with a kiss before heading back to work.
