About this Collection

This collection launches the Kill Shakespeare series, a dark fantasy adventure that reimagines William Shakespeare's characters as players in a high-stakes quest. Written by Conor McCreery and Anthony Del Col, with art by Andy Belanger, the story follows Hamlet as he is drawn into a world where he must find a missing wizard—the legendary William Shakespeare—to restore balance to a land torn by conflict between the forces of Richard III and Lady Macbeth. Volume 1 collects the first four issues of the original 2010 series published by IDW.

In Kill Shakespeare #1 ("Chapter One"), a young Hamlet—exiled and adrift after his father’s death—survives a pirate attack only to be rescued by the ruthless Richard III, who claims he’s the prophesied Shadow King destined to overthrow the tyrannical god Shakespeare. With the promise that the three witches can restore his father, Hamlet reluctantly embraces his fate, unaware that Richard and Lady Macbeth are secretly plotting to seize power in Shakespeare’s name. Written by Conor McCreery and Anthony Del Col, with art by Andy Belanger and coloring by Ian Herring, the issue’s bold, dramatic visuals are matched by Kagan McLeod’s striking cover.
