Kathy has an assignment to write a composition about her family, but finds them disappointingly ordinary—a delivery boy turned bookkeeper, a mother proud of her rice pudding, a quiet brother. So she does what any resourceful teen would: she glamorizes them into big-game hunters, movie stars, and scientific geniuses. The trouble starts when her tall tales get out and suddenly everyone believes them, setting off a chain of events that forces Kathy to decide whether a sensational fiction is worth losing her real family.

When Mr. Crane brings an important business client home for dinner while Kathy's mother is away, the spirited teen promises to pull off a memorable meal—but a series of kitchen mishaps threatens to derail the whole evening. Forced to improvise after her roast and rice go up in smoke, Kathy discovers that her quick thinking and a fresh perspective on her guest's tastes might just save the day—and her father's business deal.

When Kathy tells Hank he's not romantic enough, Señor Lopez offers some old-world advice: take up the guitar and serenade her. There's just one problem—Hank can't play a note, so he'll have to get creative with whatever instrument he can find.

Chester's attempt to win back Ginger's heart takes a comedic turn at the charity bazaar when he impersonates Swami Kananda—complete with crystal ball readings that conveniently favor him over his rival Sylvester. What follows is a wild chain of misunderstandings as the real Swami, a bumbling fortune teller, and a hapless officer get tangled up in the chaos, with Chester caught in the middle trying to prove his innocence. In the end, the truth emerges in the most ridiculous way possible, leaving everyone—including Chester himself—amazed at how he managed to pull off a victory.

Kathy eagerly invites Hank to join her for a day of skiing, and her enthusiasm quickly turns into a series of comic mishaps on the slopes. After she pulls off a fake-out stunt to teach Hank a lesson about being cocky, karma comes back around when she genuinely loses control on the dangerous Pirate's Plunge run. By day's end, both skiers learn that a little humility beats a lot of showing off.
