“Episode One: Cornerstone”

In "Episode One: Cornerstone," the Justice Society of America faces a chilling twist as Dr. Fate returns injured and without his signature lightning, just as Jay Garrick prepares to take office as Mayor of Monument Point. When Per Degaton suddenly appears at JSA headquarters with ominous new powers and a disturbing message—targeting the team not for past actions, but for future ones—the stakes shift in ways no one expected. Jesse Quick moves fast to secure the villain, but not before Degaton cryptically hints that her own choices may shape the world’s fate. Written by Marc Guggenheim and illustrated by Tom Derenick, with colors by Mike Atiyeh and letters by Rob Leigh, this pivotal issue features a striking cover by Felipe Massafera.

On the day Jay Garrick is to be installed as Mayor of Monument Point, Dr. Fate returns, injured and without Lightning. Later, during the inauguration ceremony itself, Per Degaton appears in JSA headquarters sporting new abilities and a new look, with a grudge against the JSA not for what they have already done, but for what they will do in the future. Jesse Quick snatches the villain and places him in a secure holding cell, but not before he remarks on the irony that it is she who will be responsible for what will happen to the world.
