The Ray is trapped by von Maulder but manages to break free and join Triumph and L-Ron. Realizing von Maulder is not J'onn they dig up von Maulder's grave and von Maulder engages them in brutal combat. L-Ron manages to finally defeat him and tells the others that von Maulder is a powerful mutant empath, and that their whole battle was an hallucination. J'onn arrives to tell them he had von Maulder under surveillance for a reason, but that due to their meddling, they may have lost Gypsy.
