Jughead #151
This December 1967 issue of Jughead bursts with late-'60s energy, its cover depicting the crown-hatted Jughead already seated and strumming a guitar — barefoot and playing drums with his feet simultaneously — while two girls dance in the foreground and a rotund man in a purple coat gestures toward a pair of tardy arrivals carrying another guitar, calling out "You guys are late! Jughead had to start without you!" The swirling yellow psychedelic backdrop and mod fashions make this a wonderfully vivid snapshot of the era. Whether the story "Food for Thought" delivers as much fun as the cover promises, Jughead is clearly the one-man band no one expected — and he's already stolen the show.
