The cover by Rags Morales pulls no punches: Captain Marvel in his red-and-gold costume charges forward with fists raised while Black Adam, clad in black with matching gold accents, lunges alongside him amid a backdrop of fiery destruction and shattered machinery. Whether these two powerhouses are allies or adversaries in "The Unborn Hour" is left tantalizingly open, but the raw energy crackling between them sets the stakes high. Writers David Goyer and Geoff Johns, with artist Leonard Kirk and inker Keith Champagne on interiors, were delivering some of DC's most compelling superhero drama in 2002, and this issue looks like a prime example.
