About this Issue

Jonny Quest #3 (October 2024) marks the first comic-book appearance of Jasmine Jade, a new legacy character who is the granddaughter of classic series antagonist Jezebel Jade — a meaningful expansion of the Quest mythology that ties the 1964 animated continuity to the present day. The issue is also a key chapter in the 'Time Flies' arc's globe-trotting structure, relocating Team Quest to Japan and deepening the role of villain Dr. Zin in a story that treats the source material with narrative seriousness rather than nostalgia-only fan service. As the third chapter of Dynamite's revival — itself the first ongoing Jonny Quest comic series in decades and part of the publisher's sweeping Hanna-Barbera/Warner Bros. Discovery licensing initiative — the issue demonstrates that the Casey–Piriz run had the creative legs to introduce wholly new characters while remaining faithful to the animated property's spirit. Critically, the momentum built across this five-issue arc directly seeded the subsequent crossover with Space Ghost, confirming issue #3 as a structural linchpin of Dynamite's expanding Hanna-Barbera shared universe.

History

The series emerged from a partnership announced in October 2023 between Dynamite Entertainment and Warner Bros. Discovery, which brought multiple Hanna-Barbera properties — including ThunderCats, Space Ghost, and Jonny Quest — to comics simultaneously. Dynamite approached writer Joe Casey, who has noted he was won over by his memories of the earlier Comico run and the original Doug Wildey character designs; he and his editor then recruited Sebastián Piriz, an artist whose style evoked both Wildey and designer Alex Toth's foundational Hanna-Barbera aesthetics. The series debuted with a Free Comic Book Day preview on May 4, 2024, before launching its first full issue on August 14, 2024; issue #3 followed on October 9, 2024 as the arc's midpoint.
