Jonny Quest #2
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeJonny Quest #2 (Dynamite, 2024) is the second chapter of the first ongoing Jonny Quest comic series in decades, itself born from the landmark October 2023 licensing agreement between Dynamite Entertainment and Warner Bros. Discovery that returned a slate of Hanna-Barbera properties — including Jonny Quest and Space Ghost — to comic shops simultaneously. Writer Joe Casey's time-displacement premise gave the Quest franchise its first sustained comics treatment as a science-fiction puzzle narrative rather than a simple action serial, and the series' positive critical reception directly seeded the Hanna-Barbera crossover era that followed, culminating in the Space Ghost / Jonny Quest: Space Quest miniseries in 2025. The issue also quietly deepened the franchise's internal continuity by assigning Hadji the surname Singh — a name rooted in The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest — folding decades of animated canon into a single comics universe.

The series was commissioned as part of a broad Dynamite/Warner Bros. Discovery deal announced on October 12, 2023, which simultaneously greenlit new comics for ThunderCats, Space Ghost, The Powerpuff Girls, The Flintstones, The Wizard of Oz, and Jonny Quest. Writer Joe Casey and artist Sebastián Piriz were publicly attached to the project by March 19, 2024, with a preview issue distributed on Free Comic Book Day, May 4, 2024. The first full issue shipped August 14, 2024 (pushed back from an originally planned July 2024 date), and issue #2 followed on September 11, 2024; the five-issue 'Time Flies' arc closed December 18, 2024 before Casey and Piriz moved directly into the Space Quest crossover.
Trivia · 8 facts
- Released September 11, 2024 by Dynamite Entertainment; written by Joe Casey, art by Sebastián Piriz.
- Second issue of Dynamite's five-issue 'Time Flies' arc, the first Jonny Quest ongoing comic series in decades, launched under a 2023 licensing deal between Dynamite and Warner Bros. Discovery.
- The story uses a time-travel/displacement premise: the Quest Team has arrived in the year 2024 and treks to Kolkata and then Japan seeking allies, while Dr. Zin's forces mount a covert pursuit.
- The older Hadji encountered in this issue is given the surname Singh — a nod to The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest (1996) — marking a deliberate continuity bridge between animated iterations of the franchise.
- Cover art contributors for this issue include Chad Hardin, Jae Lee (with June Chung), Tom Raney, and Richard Pace, with multiple virgin and lineart variant editions.
- The 'Time Flies' arc (issues #1–5) was collected in both hardcover and paperback as Jonny Quest: Time Flies, released in 2025 with a complete cover gallery.
- The Jonny Quest series' success directly led to the four-issue crossover miniseries Space Ghost / Jonny Quest: Space Quest (debuting May 2025), also by Casey and Piriz — the first dedicated Dynamite-universe meeting of the two Hanna-Barbera franchises in comics.
- NOTE on Space Ghost catalog indexing: No corroborated source places Space Ghost as an interior character within Jonny Quest #2's story pages. Space Ghost's connection to this era of Jonny Quest publishing is as a parallel Dynamite title (Space Ghost #2 carried a Jonny Quest #1 preview) and as the subject of the later Space Quest crossover — not as an in-story appearance in Jonny Quest #2 itself.
