In "Down All the Days," John Constantine faces the King of the Vampires in a chilling encounter that tests his will and his very nature. Written by Garth Ennis and illustrated by Steve Dillon, with colors by Tom Ziuko and letters by Gaspar Saladino, this 1998 issue delivers a tense, atmospheric showdown where a centuries-old predator offers John eternal life—only to be undone by a secret he never knew. The King of the Vampires watches John Constantine while he sleeps and remembers when he tasted his first Constantine, John's grandfather, William, in 1916. The King of the Vampires offers Constantine the choice to become a vampire, but he rejects it. After explaining his existential reasons, the vampire thrusts his fangs into John's neck, but what he doesn't know is Constantine has demon's blood in his veins. The vampire suffers from the demon's poison, convulses on the ground, and eventually explodes in flames by the light of dawn.
