John Constantine, Hellblazer #7
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis Vertigo collection brings together Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's gritty, darkly human take on Britain's most reluctant occult detective. Francesco Francavilla's cover sets the mood perfectly: a cool, cigarette-smoking Constantine occupies the center panel, flanked by the snarling, fang-bared face of something decidedly monstrous — all rendered in a smoldering palette of deep reds and burnt oranges that feels equal parts noir and nightmare. "Tainted Love" is right there in the title, and this 2014 edition is a fine way to experience Ennis and Dillon doing what they do best with John Constantine.

The King of the Vampires watches John Constantine while he sleeps and remembers when he tasted his first Constantine, John's grandfather, William, in 1916. The King of the Vampires offers Constantine the choice to become a vampire, but he rejects it. After explaining his existential reasons, the vampire thrusts his fangs into John's neck, but what he doesn't know is Constantine has demon's blood in his veins. The vampire suffers from the demon's poison, convulses on the ground, and eventually explodes in flames by the light of dawn.
