“New Maps of Hell -- Part Five”

In "New Maps of Hell — Part Five," the JLA confronts their deepest fears in a series of harrowing trials orchestrated by Z. Superman battles a threat in Metropolis that targets Lois, while Flash struggles on a lifeless moon cut off from the Speed Force. Wonder Woman is lost in endless water with no ground beneath her, Batman faces a legion of Jokers, Green Lantern faces an armored samurai in a forest, and the Martian Manhunter is drawn into a haunting vision of Old Mars. Written by Warren Ellis and illustrated by Butch Guice, with colors by David Baron and letters by Phil Balsman, this issue sees the heroes recognize their trials as ancient, conquered nightmares—and choose to move beyond them. The cover, by Michael Stribling, captures the tension of the moment.
