“A Thorn Grows in Paradise”

A green-clad, red-haired villainess called Thorn dominates the center of this April 1985 issue, arms raised triumphantly as woody tendrils ensnare the members of Infinity, Inc. around her — a white-helmeted figure in blue armor struggles at lower left, a red-costumed hero with an atomic symbol on his chest recoils behind her, a blonde heroine in red and yellow is pushed back to the right, and a green-skinned woman is caught in the branches above. Cover pencils by Dave Ross and inks by Tony DeZuniga give the forest setting a lush, threatening atmosphere that makes "A Thorn Grows in Paradise" feel like a genuine clash of wills. Roy Thomas and Dann Thomas, with art by Don Newton and inks by Joe Rubinstein, bring the full Infinity, Inc. ensemble into what promises to be a thorny confrontation indeed.
