“Lessons in Fear”

Superman has come to Manchester, and the cover by Craig Rousseau and Wayne Faucher says it all — the Man of Steel hovers triumphantly above a tree, cradling a rescued white kitten in one hand, while a thoroughly unimpressed Impulse mutters "I coulda done that...!" from the foreground. It's a wonderfully comic setup that captures the series' signature blend of superhero spectacle and teenage ego, with a small crowd of onlookers gazing up at their famous visitor. Writer William Messner-Loebs and artist Craig Rousseau bring their "Lessons in Fear" to the small town of Manchester, Alabama, and the arrival of the world's most famous superhero clearly isn't sitting well with its resident speedster.
