I, Vampire #19

Andrea Sorrentino's cover for this June 2013 New 52 installment makes the stakes unmistakably clear — the cover copy announces that Cain and Andrew fight to the death, and the image delivers on that promise with both figures bloodied and clawing at each other against a churning, fire-toned sky. One combatant lunges from above, wild-eyed and feral, while the other braces on the ground, arm extended in desperate resistance. Joshua Hale Fialkov and Fernando Blanco bring their run on I, Vampire to this pressure-cooker moment with the kind of raw intensity that made the series one of the New 52's more genuinely unsettling offerings.
