David's tenure is known for its deep character work, and this period introduces the gray, streetwise Joe Fixit persona—a cunning, mob-connected version of the Hulk operating in Las Vegas. The collection also features key appearances by the Thing, Doctor Doom, and Spider-Man, and weaves in subplots involving Betty Banner, Rick Jones, and the enigmatic Marlo Chandler, all while exploring the fractured psyche of Bruce Banner.
In "Before the Fall," the Hulk confronts the Thing in a brutal clash that tests strength against will, as the green giant faces off against Doom’s mechanized enforcer. Though outmatched in size and power, the Hulk’s determination pushes him to victory—yet he walks away, refusing to aid Dr. Doom in reclaiming Latveria.
In "Total Recall," the Hulk—now grey from his time with the High Evolutionary—dreams of Jarella's world, where his return sparks a fervent, fractured faith. Though he’s no longer the green giant of legend, he’s still hailed as a god, and his presence ignites a dangerous struggle among warring factions each claiming to speak for him.
In "Fervor," the Hulk, once a godlike figure worshipped on a distant world, finds himself betrayed by those he sought to liberate—men who used his power to seize control for themselves. Now back on Earth and stripped of his rage, Bruce Banner must confront the consequences of his absence, his mind still haunted by the echoes of a world he thought he’d saved.
In "Down and Out in...Las Vegas," Bruce Banner wakes up disoriented in a Las Vegas casino, hunted by Maggia enforcers who are after someone called "Fixit." As he tries to stay hidden, he reaches out to Marlo, a woman who claims to be Fixit’s girlfriend—only to slowly realize the truth: the city’s new enforcer, a towering figure of rage and power, might be the Hulk himself. With three months gone since the Gamma bomb explosion that was supposed to end the Hulk’s story, Bruce finds himself caught in a web of violence and deception, as the Maggia targets Berengetti’s operation and the Hulk steps in to protect his boss.
In "The Sure Thing," Bruce Banner struggles to adjust to his return after three months away from his Hulk persona, while his friend Marlo digs into the mystery of her new connection to Bruce—and her boyfriend, Joe Fixit. When Berengetti attends a tense Maggia meeting with Vegas casino owners, the mob declares their takeover, forcing a showdown that brings the Hulk into the fray. With twelve Maggia Persuaders on the line and bets flying, the Hulk takes on the odds—and the odds, it seems, are on him.
