“Rock, Roll Over, and Writhe!”

Howard the Duck — "Trapped in a World He Never Made!" — finds himself and a terrified young woman overwhelmed by a surging mass of grasping red demonic hands in what looks like a psycho-ward setting, all rendered with unsettling energy by Gene Colan and inker Tom Palmer. The taglines "Omen of an Exorcist!" and "Kiss and Tell in the Psycho-Ward!" promise the kind of offbeat, satirical horror that made this 1977 series one of Marvel's most delightfully unconventional titles. Writer Steve Gerber and artist Gene Colan were clearly having a tremendous amount of fun pushing comics into strange, unexpected territory.
