Hi-School Romance #65

A sun-drenched beach sets the stage for heartache in this 1957 Harvey romance title, as a young woman leans tenderly over a shirtless young man relaxing on a striped blanket — while a second young man in a green cap watches from a short distance behind them. The cover caption spells out the dilemma with real emotional punch: "This was it…the real thing…true love…but how could I explain that to my fiance?..." Al Avison's pencils and inks bring a polished warmth to the whole scene, and with "Schoolboy Crush!" inside, this is a fine example of mid-1950s romance comics at their most engagingly dramatic.
