Subtitled "The Death Card," this sixth chapter of Mike Mignola and Dave Stewart's Hellboy in Hell delivers one of the series' most arresting images: a cloaked, red-skinned Hellboy stands atop a darkened rooftop skyline while above him a skeletal rider on a rearing horse and a cackling winged demon send playing cards scattering into the pale air — a heart-suited card tumbling prominently among them. Mignola's linework is as confidently stark as ever, and Stewart's muted, sepia-touched palette gives the whole scene an eerie, almost woodcut quality that feels right at home in Hell's shadowy streets.
