Hawkworld #15

Part of DC's 1991 "War of the Gods" crossover event, this issue plunges Hawkworld into divine conflict with a striking cover by Graham Nolan — a winged figure soars upward toward a menacing, red-skinned supernatural being suspended in a blazing, energy-charged sky above a glittering cityscape. The sense of scale and dread is immediate, with the demonic figure's wild hair and glowing energy constructs radiating real threat against that hot magenta backdrop. John Ostrander's "The Hounds of the Gods" promises the kind of mythological tension that made this series one of DC's more ambitious titles of the era.
