Haunted #71

Charlton's long-running horror anthology reaches issue #71 with a cover by Steve Ditko that pulls you straight into the dread — two silhouetted figures recoil in terror before a glowing orb, while a ghostly white apparition haunts the warmly lit room beyond. The contrast between that inviting domestic interior and the pitch-black foreground is pure Ditko atmosphere, unsettling in the best possible way. With Jack Oleck's story "A World of His Own" waiting inside, this January 1984 entry in Baron Weirwulf's Haunted Library is a fine example of Charlton's eerie, no-frills horror at work.
