“The Artifice of Eternity”

The penultimate chapter of DC's nine-issue miniseries arrives with a cover by Chris Sprouse and K. S. Wilson that puts the stakes front and center: a hulking figure in yellow armor clashes with a grey-suited combatant atop what appears to be a massive structure, while the red spider-emblem of the Iron Spider dominates the foreground and two alarmed civilians react to the chaos on the right. The tagline "Showdown with the Iron Spider" makes the collision course unmistakable, and the dynamic composition — split between a star-field backdrop and what looks like a colossal mechanical construct — gives the whole scene real scope and tension. If you've been following Hammerlocke's run, this issue looks like exactly the confrontation the series has been building toward.
