“The Great Leap Forward”

In "The Great Leap Forward," a Neanderthal man stumbles upon the H-E-R-O Dial, unlocking powers that reshape his world—and perhaps the course of human evolution. As he journeys across ancient landscapes, sketching his discoveries in a cave near what will become Metropolis, his final act takes him beyond Earth, to the moon. Written by Will Pfeifer and illustrated by Kano, with colors by JD Mettler and letters by Ken Lopez, this 2004 issue features a striking cover by John Van Fleet.
