Grifter heads to Los Angeles in this December 1995 opener to the four-part "City of Angels" arc, and Ryan Benjamin and Chuck Gibson's cover sets the mood perfectly — Cole Cash crouches in a green jacket and backwards "Homage LA Studios" cap, red-gloved fists clasped, while a trio of street-tough figures loom behind him beneath a night sky and palm tree. Looming even larger in the background is a cool, watchful female face, her expression suggesting that L.A. has its own power players ready to complicate things. With Steven T. Seagle scripting and the City of Angels as the backdrop, this one promises the kind of stylish urban tension Grifter does best.
