“The Lotus Seed Part One: Queen of the Shadows”

Part one of "The Lotus Seed" kicks off with a genuinely striking cover: Green Arrow and a companion ride hard on a white horse across a wintry landscape, a large red star and the Chinese flag looming behind them while armed soldiers give chase in the background. The sense of speed and danger is immediate — Damaggio and Campanella frame the pair mid-flight, the Emerald Archer fully kitted out in green with arrow at the ready, his partner firing a pistol to hold off their pursuers. With Chuck Dixon scripting and a globe-trotting premise suggested right on the cover, this 1996 arc looks like a genuinely adventurous change of scenery for Oliver Queen.
