Written by Greg Rucka and Ed Brubaker with art by Michael Lark, this trade paperback includes issues #1-10, introducing readers to the gritty, procedural side of Batman's world through the eyes of the men and women who risk their lives in the line of duty.
Gotham Central #1 (2008) kicks off with a tense, character-driven story titled "In the Line of Duty 1," diving into the personal and professional fallout when Detective Montoya faces a lawsuit from a woman she arrested—only for the suspect to walk free on a technicality and turn the tables. Written by Greg Rucka and illustrated with sharp precision by Michael Lark, the issue unfolds in the shadow of a murder, a dead private investigator, and a secret exposed when a photograph of Montoya and her lover appears on the precinct bulletin board. The cover by Michael Lark captures the mood perfectly, setting the tone for a story where loyalty, justice, and reputation are all under fire.
